In the Shadow of Rattlesnake Mountain

CREHST is proud to announce the release of In the Shadow of Rattlesnake Mountain - A treasury of recipes, photos and memories from Lewis and Clark through the Great Depression.

This unique book tells the stories of hardworking people and how they lived from 1861 through the Great Depression. It even shares the recipes for how they survived from season to season depending on the available food. Most of the photos feature the early communities of Richland, Hanford and White Bluffs before the Manhattan Project began. This book encompasses how both the land and the seasons influenced every aspect of their lives, in the shadow of Rattlesnake Mountain.

Dupus Boomer

Dupus Boomer was a cartoon created by Dick Donnell and started appearing in 1945 in the Richland Villager weekly newspaper. Dupus brought humor to tough living conditions and frustrating realities of life in a government town. Popular acclaim kept him running until the newspaper folded in 1950. Take a look at some sample Dupus cartoons.
