Tombstone Tales

Tombstone Tales is a living history tour of Richland's Resthaven Pioneer Cemetery. Step back in time as tour groups are lead by the Grim Reaper to individual gravesites where actors in period costume will give a brief monologue of their life as an early Columbia Valley pioneer.

These unique cemetery tours offer a look back to an era when women hand washed clothes outdoors and spent much of their day in the kitchen, men and horses plowed thousands of acres in the relentless summer heat of Eastern Washington, children walked to their one-room schoolhouses, and people's main source of transportation was by foot or horseback.

Tours are appropriate for all ages. Admission by ticket only.

Advance purchase is highly recommended. Tickets for the next production of Tombstone Tales will be available October 2008.

Alphabet Homes Neighborhood Walking Tours

CREHST will once again sponsor a series of walking tours through the historic Richland neighborhoods known for their Alphabet or ABC Houses. The tours will be guided by host Richard Nordgren. Each two-hour walking tour will cover a different section of the city and will illustrate the sociological and political thought that went into the design of the neighborhoods. Neighborhoods to be explored will include South Richland, the "Gold Coast" (a National Register of Historic Places neighborhood) and Central Richland.

Next tours will occur May 2009.

Astronomy Day

LIGO, the Tri-City Astronomy Club, and CREHST will again celebrate Astronomy Day with a free public star gaze This event is held at LIGO. See the LIGO website information about LIGO.

CREHST will provide a prize pouch for all children who complete the history/science/technology sequence in the course of completing the reading program. The pouch will include the following items from our gift shop:

Next Spring Swing - April 2009

CREHST's 11th ANNUAL fundraising event will be a wonderful opportunity to support our unique student and adult education programs. The renowned University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton School of Music and Jazz Band IV (a 24-piece band) will perform music similar to music heard when watching the popular television program Dancing with the Stars for your listening pleasure and to keep you dancing. A Silent Auction, supported by various local businesses and generous individuals will have irresistible treasures for everyone.

There are several ways a business or an individual can participate in this worthwhile fundraiser.
